Thales Subsidiary Acquires AAC

Thales subsidiary TDSI has taken complete ownership of Advanced Acoustic Concepts (AAC), the firm’s joint venture with Leonardo DRS.

AAC develops training, sonar, and knowledge management systems commonly offered to modernize US Navy platforms.

In 2021, the firm had over 200 employees and generated $80 million in sales.

Through the acquisition, TDSI could expand its engineering and support footprint throughout the defense industry and commercial markets to develop smaller warfare technologies such as management systems, helmet-mounted displays, missile fuses, and battlefield sensors.

“AAC’s skills and experience in surface ship Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), airborne ASW, and mine countermeasures will strengthen our support of the US DOD,” TDSI CEO Mike Sheehan said.

“Further, since its formation, the company has achieved solid performance while supporting the needs of the US Navy. We expect AAC to continue this success under TDSI ownership,” he continued.

As a part of Thales Group, TDSI operates under the US Department of Defense Proxy Agreement, in which Foreign Ownership, Control, or Influence mitigation is applied.
