Babcock to Provide Operational Assistance for UK Armored Vehicles Sent to Ukraine

The UK Ministry of Defence has contracted Babcock to provide operational support for armored vehicles sent to Ukraine.

Under the 50-million-pound ($65 million) contract, the British defense firm will provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul for British armored vehicles such as Challenger 2 tanks and the Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked).

The initial 12-month contract includes training Ukrainian personnel, with an extension option.

Critical for Counter-Offensive

“This contract delivers essential support for Ukraine on the battlefield, sustaining their military equipment by providing the expertise and skills to keep Ukraine’s armored vehicles moving, along with the provision of vital spares,” UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said.

“Our support for Ukraine is unwavering and will continue, for as long as it takes.”

Director of Defence Equipment & Support Operations, Major General Anna-Lee Reilly, added that the assistance is “even more important as the Ukrainian counter-offensive begins.”

“This contract draws together the strengths of prime contractor Babcock, with the vehicle manufacturers – Rheinmetall, BAE Systems, and RBSL – to deliver an agile, scalable, and balanced package of support that will continue to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
