Madrid Firm to Manufacture Patriot Missile Components in Spain

Lockheed Martin has signed an agreement with Spain’s Grupo Oesia to produce Patriot Advanced Capability – 3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) components.

After transferring technology and assistance, the Madrid-based company will manufacture PAC-3 MSE electronic cables and harnesses for the global supply chain.

“Our collaboration with Grupo Oesía will bring critical industrial competencies to Spain, boosting its Integrated Air and Missile Defense capabilities against growing threats,” VP of PAC-3 Programs at Lockheed Martin Brenda Davidson said.

“We look forward to collaborating with the Spanish industrial base and strengthening our existing relationships.”

Missile Segment Enhancement

The MSE version features a larger, dual-pulse solid rocket motor, larger fins, and upgraded actuators and thermal batteries over the PAC-3, ensuring greater range and altitude.

It utilizes hit-to-kill technology for interception, exerting greater kinetic energy on the target than possible through blast fragmentation, according to Grupo Oesia.

Fifteen countries worldwide have chosen the missile for their air defense requirements, including Spain.

It will enhance the capability of Spanish Patriot battalions to defend against tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft.

“This new agreement confirms Lockheed Martin’s satisfaction with our operational performance as a recognized elite supplier,” Grupo Oesía COO Hector Roldan said.
