Biden Crosses Fingers for Ukraine Counteroffensive

US President Joe Biden wished Ukraine well on Monday in its expected counteroffensive against Russia’s invasion, crossing his fingers to show support.

Meeting in the Oval Office with Denmark’s visiting Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Biden was asked by AFP if he thought the expected Ukrainian pushback would work.

The president answered by silently raising his hand and crossing his middle and index fingers.

Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Ganna Malyar said Monday that the country’s forces launched a defensive operation that “includes counteroffensive actions.”

However, details of fighting on the ground remain scant and it is unclear whether Ukraine has launched a major counteroffensive action.

Expectations of a long-touted operation to push Russians back from occupied territories have been building for weeks.
