BAE to Supply UK, Sweden, Germany With 436 All-Terrain Vehicles

British aerospace firm BAE Systems will deliver 436 future all-terrain vehicles for $760 million to the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Germany starting in 2024.

Under the joint procurement deal, BAE will supply 236 armored vehicles to Sweden, 140 to Germany, and 60 to the UK.

The order covers BAE’s latest  BvS10 military vehicle, including troop transport, logistics, medical evacuation, recovery, and command and control variants.

“We‘re seeing increased interest from numerous countries for the extreme mobility capabilities offered by the BvS10 and its unarmored sister vehicle, Beowulf,” BAE Hägglunds Managing Director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask said.

“Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom will be getting an excellent return on their investment in these highly capable vehicles for decades to come. This further demonstrates the strong relationship between BAE Systems and our customers to deliver these critical capabilities.”

Collaborative All-Terrain Vehicle

The three-nation procurement is under the international Collaborative All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program between the three European allies and the Netherlands.

In 2021, the Swedish government led the joint effort to acquire the new military vehicles after the four nations signed a statement of intent in April 2020.

According to Swedish Defense Materiel Administration Director Mikael Frisell, the program includes a framework agreement that sets potential upgrades for more BvS10 vehicles in the coming years.

“The signing of the CATV contract is great news for UK Defence and for Commando Forces. This is a unique capability fundamental for Commando Forces that are expert in operating in the extreme cold weather and across the littoral,” Mark Totten, navy deputy director of acquisition said.

“The vehicle boasts a number of characteristics that make it perfect for the Future Commando Force: it is adept over snow, has amphibious swimming capability and protects its occupants from several threats.”

Armored, Articulated Vehicle

The BvS10 is an armored and articulated vehicle designed to operate under the harshest weather conditions and the most remote environments.

The vehicle features adaptable weaponry, allowing it to be integrated with weapons calibers ranging from 5.56 mm to 12.7 mm. It also has a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.

“For optimum security, the BvS10 offers protection against ballistics and anti-tank mines, while smoke grenade launchers provide additional protection,” BAE said.
