Coalition intensifies strikes near Raqqa, hits ISIS training camp near Al Qaim – CJTF-OIR

U.S.-led Coalition strikes against Islamic State near the Syrian city of Raqqa picked back up on Wednesday as the Coalition targeted communication nodes and supplies, Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.

“Near Ar Raqqah, 24 strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units, damaged nine fighting positions, destroyed 11 fighting positions, 12 vehicles, two communication nodes and one ISIS supply route,” the release said on Thursday.

Strikes near Al Qaim in Iraq hit an ISIS training camp, according to the release.

Coalition forces conducted four strikes consisting of six engagements in Iraq. The strikes included:

  • Near Al Qaim, three strikes destroyed an ISIS training camp and staging area.
  • Near Rawah, one strike destroyed a VBIED and three ISIS supply routes.

In Syria, the Coalition carried out 27 strikes consisting of 33 engagements against ISIS:

  • Near Abu Kamal, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed one ISIS vehicle.
  • Near Ar Raqqah, 24 strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units, damaged nine fighting positions, destroyed 11 fighting positions, 12 vehicles, two communication nodes and one ISIS supply route.
  • Near Al Shadaddai, two strikes destroyed an ISIS HQ and one staging area.

The Coalition also cleared two strikes consisting of six engagements that were conducted in the prior 24 hours:

  • Near Ar Raqqah, Syria, one strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed a fighting position.
  • Near Rawah, Iraq, one strike destroyed a VBIED, an ISIS fuel tanker and a vehicle.

The U.S.-led Coalition of more than 70 members has been conducting airstrikes, ground-based and rocket-propelled artillery fire against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq since 2014.
