Oshkosh Defense has received a $201-million contract to provide additional medium tactical vehicles for the US Army.
The agreement covers the delivery of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV A2), including 16 different platform variants and trailers.
It follows a $141-million contract in January ordering more than 400 FMTV A2s and corresponding FMTV trailers.
The new FMTV A2s will bolster the army’s transport of warfighters and supplies, recovering other vehicles and weapon systems, and hauling equipment.
“The versatility and mobility of the FMTV A2 is a direct result of Oshkosh’s partnership with the US Army to provide the advanced technologies and expertise necessary to meet the ever-changing demands of the battlefield,” Oshkosh Defense Chief Programs Officer Pat Williams stated.
“As the exclusive provider of medium tactical vehicles, Oshkosh is committed to delivering the best performing vehicles in the world to the Army and our allied partners.”
Oshkosh has provided the US Army with nearly 2,000 FMTV A2s and 1,000 FMTV trailers for a total of $858 million.
‘Refined’ Vehicle
The FMTV A2 is an upgrade over Oskhkosh’s FMTV A1P2 line of vehicles in service with the US Army since the 1980s.
The new trucks feature a modernized engine and electrical systems, increased payload capacity, and improved off-road capability.
“Since we were awarded the FMTV A2 production contract in 2018, we’ve worked closely with the US Army to refine the platform and add additional capabilities,” William explained during the January award.
“We’re confident that we are delivering the best performing medium tactical vehicle in the world.”
