Lockheed Wins $439M Air-to-Ground Missile Contract From US Army

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $439-million contract to manufacture and deliver air-to-ground missile systems to the US Army.

The deal is supported by foreign military sales to the governments of Australia, the Czech Republic, France, South Korea, and Thailand.

Work will be carried out in Florida and is expected to be finished by September 2025.

Lockheed’s Air-to-Ground Missiles

Lockheed Martin manufactures the  JASSM, a long-range, air-to-ground precision standoff missile.

Specifically designed for the US Air Force, the weapon has a 450-kilogram (992-pound) warhead and a range of up to 1,800 kilometers (1,118 miles).

The American aerospace firm also produces the Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) system that reportedly provides increased lethality to rotary wing aircraft and drones.

A precision-guided munition, the JAGM is designed to destroy high-value stationary, moving, and relocatable land and naval targets at a maximum range of 16 kilometers (9.9 miles).

It is unclear which Lockheed air-to-ground missiles will be delivered to the US Army as part of the deal.
