US Approves $125 Million UK Javelin Missile Request

The US State Department has approved a Javelin missile sale to the UK worth an estimated $125 million.

London requested up to 600 Javelin FGM-148F missiles, including 12 fly-to-buy missiles, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency revealed.

The purchase includes technical assistance, logistics, and program support.

The approval comes months after the department approved a $300-million Javelin launcher sale request from the UK in August.

To Replenish Ukraine Drawdown

The British government requested over 500 Javelin missile systems to help replenish the reduced stocks following the Ukraine drawdown.

The UK had shipped around 7,000 anti-tank systems, including the Javelin, NLAW, and Brimstone, to Kyiv by July 2022 to defend itself against the Russian invasion.

The shoulder-fired Raytheon/Lockheed Martin system can strike a target 2,500 meters (8,202 feet) away. It costs $178,000, including the launching system and the missile, which alone costs around $78,000.
