QinetiQ to Provide Engineering Support for US Army Optical Technologies

QinetiQ has received a $48 million contract to provide research, development, and engineering support for the US Army C5ISR Center’s optical solutions.

Under the agreement, the company will focus on image processing and advanced optics capabilities in the center’s Research & Technology Integration Directorate and Image Processing Division.

Work for the contract will be performed within a 24-month base and a 24-month optional period.

“The US Army’s science and technology mission objectives align with our comprehensive work across the C5ISR space,” QinetiQ US CEO and President Shawn Purvis said.

“We are focused on providing mission-led engineering to protect our servicemen and women while advancing operational goals, and are proud to work with the Army on its R&D and imaging efforts.”

Supporting the US Army’s Evolving Mission Landscape

According to QinetiQ, the contract will enable the C5ISR Center to further assist in the army’s modernization programs and cross-functional team research objectives.

Such initiatives include Soldier Lethality, the Next Generation Combat Vehicle, and Future Vertical Lift, developed through algorithms, hardware installation, programming, systems engineering, advanced optics, display, and sensor protection.

“Advanced optics and comprehensive image processing give our forces an advantage in an ever-evolving mission landscape,” Executive Vice President and General Manager at QinetiQ C5ISR Business Stephen Iwicki explained.

“We value the work we do in national security and are honored to continue our support of Army modernization objectives.”

QinetiQ in US Defense

In August, QinetiQ acquired US-based Avantus Federal LLC for $590 million.

Avantus is a solutions provider for the US Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, the larger intelligence community, and federal civilian agencies.

Through the acquisition, QinetiQ is expected to bolster its data analysis, advisory, and technical workforce to support future defense projects involving test and evaluation, engineering solutions, cyber and information, and mission rehearsals.
