British Army Paratroopers Hone Mountain Skills in Slovenia

British Army paratroopers have joined Slovenian, Polish, Hungarian, and US mountain specialist infantries for a mountain skills training in Slovenia.

The force deployed around 120 paratroopers from C (Bruneval) Company, 2nd Battalion “The Parachute Regiment” (2PARA) to the exercise.

Through the training, the UK army aims to prepare its paratroopers as a global response force. The activity also enabled the British troops to share skills and test interoperability with NATO allies.

Exercise Triglav Star

Exercise Triglav Star included physical challenges in high-altitude points, steep cliff faces, densely wooded slopes, and unpredictable weather in the rugged peaks of the Julian Alps.

It also involved basic training sessions in navigation, fixed rope climbing, rappelling, abseiling, and rope bridges.

“The exercise gives us the ability to develop basic mountain skills and adapt our standard operating procedures in an under-trained environment.” C (Bruneval) Company Commanding Officer Maj. Steve White said.

“The fitness, initiative and adaptability expected of airborne soldiers is combined with the experience of mountain specialist troops and experts from our allies, allowing us to gain a foundational understanding of operating in this important environment.”

“It will make us more rounded soldiers able to deploy at high-readiness into challenging terrain.”
