Elbit Systems Unveils Helicopter Vision Suite With F-35 Tech

Elbit Systems has introduced a helicopter vision suite that allows pilots to see through the body of the aircraft like F-35 pilots.

Called the X-Sight, the augmented-reality helmet-mounted display features a sophisticated sensor array and an artificial intelligence-powered mission computer.

It provides helicopter pilots with a “clear, colored, and real-time” field of view suitable for day and night missions, and adverse weather conditions.

Like F-35 helmets, the cutting-edge device allows aviators to see a terrain grid with data points overlaid on real-world images.

Additionally, the X-Sight can track the landscape to caution pilots of potential obstacles while flying at low altitude.

“This technology that we developed is bringing the fifth-generation capability from the F-35 to the helicopter fleet of combat helicopters and utility helicopters, allowing pilots to fly in any degraded visual environment and turning this degraded visual environment from a limitation to an operational benefit,” Elbit Systems official Aviel Yahav said.

Additional Features

The X-Sight helmet-mounted display reportedly features a seamless in-flight sensor capable of detecting moving targets to warn pilots of incoming threats.

It has a range of 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) and a 100×50 field of view.

In addition, the device incorporates a night-vision feature that pilots can switch on to support missions conducted in low-light environments.

According to the company, the new technology has already been viewed by potential clients around the world.

It was developed to support the Future Vertical Lift program and the Israeli Air Force helicopter fleet.
