Edge Autonomy has been awarded a contract to supply an undisclosed number of Penguin unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to the US Army.
The new drones will be used for intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance missions.
According to the company, the deal builds on its nearly 25-year history of providing high-performance UAVs to the US Department of Defense and NATO allies.
Edge Autonomy has not disclosed the value of the agreement nor the type of Penguin drones to be supplied.
However, it said that it is proud to have been selected to support US Army missions.
“This sale represents the US Army’s continued recognition and trust in the capabilities and superior service provided by our company,” company CEO John Purvis remarked. “We are honored to partner with the Department of Defense to deliver the leading cutting edge unmanned technology to the warfighter.”
Penguin Drones
The Penguin family of UAVs includes an electric variant of the Penguin B and the Penguin C, both capable of flying for more than 20 hours.
The Penguin B can fly at a maximum speed of 129 kilometers per hour and is designed to operate in hostile environments and adverse weather conditions.
It is fitted with an advanced electro-optic camera for capturing high-resolution images.
The Penguin C is a long-range drone for surveillance, object tracking, small moving target indication, and intelligence gathering.
It is water resistant and also has a heating option that allows the drone to fly in cold weather conditions.
